Homecoming 2024

Schedule

Homecoming this year is scheduled for October 19th.  Currently a number of former Showband Presidents are working on a number of activities for that weekend.

Current Showband Alumni schedule for Homecoming Weekend

Friday October 18.  5:00 - 7:00       Start the weekend at Pizza Pros in DeKalb. 

Gather with your host, the percussion legend Ivan Krpan, and other friends and enjoy

Pizza, full menu of other great food and beverages.

Pizza Pros has been a great supporter of the Alumni in the past.  Pizza Pros is located at 1205 W. Lincoln Hwy.  Right across from the Red Roof Inn.

 

Friday October 18.  7:00 - 11:00.  Past Showband Presidents Gala at the Red Roof Inn ballroom.  Many of the past Presidents have been working on this gathering and it will be a great evening of reminiscing, activities will be planned and special surprises will occur throughout the evening.  Food and beverages will be available.  In case people are not aware the Red Roof used to be the Holiday Inn and that same ballroom was used for many Showband events back in the day!  The Red Roof Inn is located at 1212 W. Lincoln Hwy.

7-9 p.m., Mandatory Silverette alumni practice, Details and location to be determined and will be emailed and posted on the Silverette Alumni Facebook page. To perform the routine on homecoming, alumni must attend this crucial practice

Saturday October 19. Game Day

8 a.m., Welcome and Sign-in: Band and Silverette alumni sign-in and welcome opens at southeast gate to the stadium.

8:30 a.m., Rehearsal in Huskie Stadium. ALL PERFORMERS. Band and Silverette alumni and current HMB combined REHEARSAL at Huskie Stadium. We will run through the music and review the schedule and logistics for the day. To ensure that Saturday’s activities proceed without difficulty, Dr. Bough and the council request that all who are performing any portion of the event attend the rehearsal.

10:30 a.m., Rehearsal dismissed.

Saturday October 19. Pre-game Tailgating.

There will be two places to tailgate before the big game.

Our primary spot will be a very large

white van near the back of the tailgate area right behind the stadium on the west side.

Large banners listing the Showband Alumni will be in place. There will

be adult beverages, water and pop along with plenty of snacks.

Location number two is the Marching Band Alumni Homecoming Tent in the area near the Barsema Alumni and Visitors Center.  There is a 20x20 tent that is rented out for us and paid for by the association. It is within Mission’s Grove with is on the east side of the stadium, next to the Barsema Alumni Visitors Center.  Information about Mission’s Grove can be found here: https://www.myniu.com/article.html?aid=1864

1:50 p.m., Pregame call time: The band and Silverette alumni will join the band and will enter Huskie Stadium from the southeast.

2:05 p.m.: The pregame show starts.

2:30 p.m., Kickoff: Band and Silverette alumni and their guests are welcome to sit in the east grandstand with the band during the game. All band and Silverette alumni and guests must have tickets.

Approximately 4 p.m., Halftime: Silverette alumni perform their halftime routine and all Band and Silverette alumni are invited to join the current band in performing the Huskie Fight Song while marching off the field at the end of the halftime show.

Approximately 6:30 p.m., Post-game performance (optional): Band and Silverette alumni are invited to join the band on the field to perform the halftime music.

Saturday October 19.  Right after the game.  Showband Alumni banquet at the DeKalb Elks Club.  Join us as we end the weekend with a banquet celebrating with Mike Embrey the past history of the Showband.  Many people who have been involved in the Showband in past will be there to help celebrate this milestone anniversary.  Food and beverage will be available.  DeKalb Elks Club is located at 209 S. Annie Glidden Rd., just south of Lincoln Hwy.​

For those wanting to make hotel reservations the Red Roof Inn is holding a block of rooms for Showband Alumni so we would recommend to book them as soon as you can!
